7 Timeless Fashion Tips from a Chic Wardrobe Stylish and Creative Director

JTJ Stylist Q&A — Featuring @Taylor.Lewis

Hi Jewel and Gems, we had the opportunity to pick the brain of stylist, style blogger, and creative director @Taylor.Lewis on ways to incorporate jewelry into your everyday style, from evening to streetwear. There are a host of inclusive tips from this interview. Check out Taylor's suggestions when pairing jewelry with your outfit.

1. When styling clients, how do you decide which jewelry pieces elevate — rather than overpower — a look?
Stylist Answer: I always look at the outfit first…. the neckline, the texture, the overall vibe. Once I get the feel of the look, I pick jewelry that complements instead of competes. If the outfit is already doing a lot, I keep the pieces clean and intentional. If it’s simple, that’s when I bring in something bold to lift it. I love balance… I don’t want the jewelry screaming, I want it enhancing.

2. How does jewelry influence your approach across different styles — streetwear, formal, workwear, and everyday looks?
Stylist Answer: Jewelry shifts the whole mood. With streetwear, I like to add a little attitude, like chunky chains and mixed metals. For formal looks, it’s all about elegance and proportion. Workwear gets sleek and refined, but still expressive. Everyday looks are my favorite because jewelry really makes them feel stylish without trying too hard.
3. What guidelines or “rules” do you follow (or love to break) when layering jewelry for a client?
Stylist Answer: My only real “rule” is that it needs to make sense together. Outside of that, I love breaking the matching-metal rule. Mixing metals, textures, and lengths makes the layers feel personal and modern. I usually start with one main piece, then build the rest around it so everything flows.

4. How do you use jewelry to add personality, edge, or polish to a simple outfit?Stylist Answer: Jewelry is the quickest way to add personality. A plain tee and jeans can turn into a whole moment with the right earring or chain. If I want edge, I grab chunky or sculptural pieces. If I want polish, I go cleaner and more refined. Jewelry can take something simple and make it look intentional instantly.
5. What are your top three essential jewelry staples every client should own for everyday wear?
Stylist Answer: A good hoop or statement earring , a simple chain that layers with everything and a bracelet or watch that adds structure and pulls a look together. These pieces work no matter what you throw on.
6. When styling for professional or work settings, how do you balance refinement with individuality?
Stylist Answer: I keep it polished, but I always add something that feels like them….maybe a unique shape, a soft texture, or a signature metal. It’s about looking put together without losing your personal touch. Quiet statement pieces go a long way in work settings.
7. What’s your philosophy on making jewelry feel intentional — not just an accessory but a part of the overall look?
Stylist Answer: For me, jewelry is part of the outfit, not the afterthought. I look at proportion, vibe, mood the same way I style clothes. When it ties into the look instead of sitting on top of it, that’s when it feels intentional and elevated.
